How we grew a gift card app to 5,000 users, then pivoted to B2B

Payppy launched Pepmo, a gift card app for consumers. It reached 5,000 users and a 4.8 rating on both app stores, on a thin budget.

The market would not fund a consumer loyalty app, so we built SpendOS for banks and brands. We did not land a client. This page shows what we built and what happened.

The consumer app

Pepmo let people pick a brand, buy a gift card in seconds, and use it online or in store. The discount was already in the card.

We found users through Instagram and events at stores in malls and cafes. Revenue came from the margin we earned from gift card resellers, Pine Labs and Gyftr.

The app reached 5,000 users, a 4.8 rating and ₹5 lakh in GMV.

The pivot

The market was not ready to fund a consumer loyalty app. We kept what we had learned and moved to B2B.

SpendOS helps banks, brands and networks run offers that reach customers when they pay. It has four parts:

  • Offer sourcing: offers from brands, banks and networks, in one place.

  • Live dashboard: track every campaign while it runs.

  • Campaign builder: target by cohort and spend behaviour, with no engineering work.

  • Payment-moment offers: the offer appears when the customer decides to pay.

How we kept it lean

We were bootstrapped. I led the vision, the product and the design, with a team of 2 designers and 3 developers. My co-founder ran marketing, sales, user acquisition, talks with potential investors and business operations. An accounts lead and a contract team handled finance, an outsourced legal team handled legal work, and an advisor with 20 years in fintech guided us.

Alongside, I kept a fractional design role at PayGlocal.

Where it stands

We built the product and have leads, but none have moved. We had no budget left to hire someone for sales and operations. I paused my work in May 2026. The team is still following up with the leads.
